Egyptians are often cited as the first logo designers.
In the 13th century they used to brand domestic animals with hieroglyphs to mark ownership of their animals.
Now that I’ve enlightened you with some graphic design history let me ask you a question.
Have you ever started doing something for fun and then realised you enjoy it so much that you want to be able to devote more time to it?
Well that’s how I got into graphic design. Initially I would just play around on Photoshop to create fun images for a bit of banter on WhatsApp.
I soon found myself getting requests from my friends to design custom Twitter AVIs and later on logo designs. The majority of these were for league mates of mine in my Fantasy Football leagues. I am a big fan of Fantasy Football (American Football) and participate in multiple leagues.
Back in December 2018 a good friend of mine Jack Humphrey (@JackHumphreyKM) shared a tweet from a Fantasy Football site called FFStatistics. They were looking for graphic designers to join their team. I dropped them a DM and they asked to send over some designs for some upcoming articles.
Now I was in a position where I was able to merge two of my loves into one, Fantasy Football & graphic design. I was soon designing multiple graphics a week for them.
I then went on to join DLF (Dynasty League Football) around a year later when they acquired FFStatistics.
It has been a real confidence boost getting great feedback on my design work in the Fantasy Football field.
This led to me deciding to launch the Designs2Please website. It allows me to continue spending more time on my designs whilst supplementing my income at the same time.
To start off with I have focussed my designs around three areas that are close to me.
- Fantasy Football – one of my favourite past times and so I just had to work on designs revolving around this.
- Siberian Huskies – I have 3 rescued Siberian Huskies (Beau, Flora & Dillon) who have provided me with some great inspiration.
- Team Crazy – These are my partner’s dogs, Mia & Mojo. They have their own following on Facebook. You may have seen them alongside KISS with their tongues out in the “Nailed It” meme
